How Best-Selling Books, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, or Podcasts Can Boost Global Reach
Insights from a Recent Study
Have you ever wondered how some solopreneurs rise to the top while others struggle to gain traction? I was very curious about it and finally got some convincing answers after a piece of research my social researcher friends shared with me recently.
A recent study by Linkee has cracked the code by analyzing the top ten solopreneurs across various industries, ranking them by factors such as net worth, social media following, and key products. I will briefly introduce it to you for information and inspiration purposes.
If you’re an aspiring solopreneur or a seasoned freelancer aiming to be content entrepreneur one day, these insights reveal patterns that can help you scale your business and boost your online influence. Who knows you might be a millionaire like Ferriss, Shetty, Koe or others.
A Brief Time Travel
Back in my days in 70s, 80s, even in 90s, when I was working as a healthcare professional, I didn’t have the luxury of platforms like Twitter, Instagram, or even the idea of self-publishing.
Everything was paper-bound, tedious, and slow-moving. I remember typing manuscripts by hand, hoping someone somewhere would deem my work worthy of print. It was a world where, despite the passion and knowledge, making an impact felt like pushing a boulder uphill.
If only I had the power of podcasts and social media back then — I wonder how many bestsellers might have come from those years of hard-earned wisdom.
But I’m here to tell you, it’s a different world now — and you, dear solopreneurs, especially freelance writers, have opportunities we couldn’t even dream of. With the click of a button, you can reach thousands, even millions. It’s a gift that today’s freelancers must embrace with full force.
Meet the Top 3 Power Players

At the pinnacle of the list is Tim Ferriss, the author and podcaster behind “The 4-Hour Workweek” and “The Tim Ferriss Show.” With a net worth of $100 million, and a massive following of 1.9 million on Twitter/X and 1.6 million on Instagram, Ferriss is a powerhouse of influence. His strategic use of media has made him a household name in both entrepreneurship and self-improvement.
In second place, Jay Shetty has leveraged his motivational speaking career and mindfulness content to amass a net worth of $4 million. With the largest Instagram following on the list (15.7M), Jay’s “Think Like a Monk” book and his popular podcast “On Purpose” show how content rooted in personal growth can build a devoted audience.
The third standout is Dan Koe, who combines digital marketing with productivity coaching. His book “The Art of Focus” and social media presence (457.7K Twitter/X followers, 1.6M on Instagram) highlight the growing demand for digital products and self-improvement programs. With a net worth of $50 million, Koe’s approach underscores the importance of carving out a niche and cultivating expertise.
What Does This Mean for You?
The success of these solopreneurs shows that personal branding, strategic use of social media, and well-executed content creation are the trifecta of modern entrepreneurship. The path to the top might seem varied, but the key takeaway is clear: align your passion with market demand, and choose the right platforms to amplify your message.
Takeaways for Solopreneurs, Especially Freelance Writers

I discussed this research with some successful content developers and marketers. Here is a summary of what I learned from them:
Leverage Social Media: Ferriss, Shetty, and Koe all demonstrate how vital a social media presence is. For freelance writers, Instagram and Twitter/X are powerful tools to expand reach and connect with readers.
Find Your Niche: Whether it’s productivity, mindfulness, or entrepreneurship, these solopreneurs have tapped into specific interests. Freelance writers should focus on what they’re truly passionate about, to build authority in that space.
Create Evergreen Content: Books and podcasts offer long-lasting value. Writers can consider self-publishing or starting their own podcast to share expertise and gain credibility.
Build a Personal Brand: Your name and reputation are your most valuable assets. Consistent content creation and audience engagement will keep you relevant and help you grow, just like these top solopreneurs have done.

This study was conducted by Linkee. A spokesperson from Linkee commented on the study: “From savvy digital marketing moves to launching impactful products, these entrepreneurs show that being solo doesn’t mean going small. Their paths mix creativity, hustle, and the power to connect with audiences online, proving that a strong personal brand and a smart strategy can take you far in today’s fast-paced digital scene.”
