Sylvain, from France, is the technical brain behind the Illumination Substack Mastery Boost
Dear Subscribers,
As an editor, content curator, and now a founding member of the Illumination Substack Mastery community I started introducing my editor and writer colleagues. It is a great pleasure for me to do so.
My latest one was about David Mokotoff, MD. If you missed it, you can read from this link. You can find the rest at the end of this story.
Today I will introduce another great writer, editor, and in fact chief technology officer of Illumination Substack Mastery, a person who is the right hand of our leader and chief editor Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Main).
So here is what I learned about my favourite writer and editor friend Sylvain Zyssman. Over the last 25 years, Sylvain has essentially lived three technical lives.
His first was in backend development, followed by full-stack roles. Back in those days, working with Real Basic, PHP, JavaScript, and CSS opened up a wide range of projects, from small clients to larger regional instances — each with its own unique needs and challenges. It was a time that really tested developers’ resilience (IE6, vanilla code, polyfills, anyone?).
As the digital world evolved, Sylvain noticed the growing collaboration between frontend and backend teams. The complexity of projects and the rise of new tools and frameworks led to the emergence of Fullstack positions.
Then came the startup life. Sylvain co-founded a company that included a development studio and a training center. This meant growing and managing a team while handling an ongoing stream of client projects.
As his team grew from one to ten, his role morphed into something like a Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO). He was the link between tech and business, aligning strategies with processes and project cycles.
In parallel, he created and led training programs, helping everyone from CEOs to students to bridge the gap between digital illiteracy and the latest in AI and tech trends. Adapting content to the needs of diverse audiences became key.
Sylvain’s third phase is still unfolding today, with a focus on AI engineering and data science. From building NLP, computer vision, and recommendation models to automating processes and maintaining robust systems, he’s worked across sectors like healthcare, marketing, real estate, and more.
What’s fascinating is how the lines between software development and data engineering are continuing to blur — much like they did years ago between frontend and backend. These diverse experiences help Sylvain bridge the gap between business strategy and technology, enabling him to support projects at any stage and bringing invaluable insights every step of the way.
These transversal experiences and visions allow him to bridge business strategy and technology, building and auditing strategic solutions for modern challenges. He can help at any project step, in almost any aspect, providing as many valuable insights as possible.
Sylvain keeps guiding tech-savvy and non-tech projects founders, either through complete “Do For You” services, or on Skool, where he leads a 100% free community helping startups get their first 50 paying customers under 60 days.
Sylvain is now updating our Substack Mastery boost site, and soon he will start rolling out the production with his team of technical volunteers, whom I will introduce in another story.

I also enjoy reading interviews conducted by Dr Mehmet Yildiz (Main) which can be found in this collection. Each interview helped me meet a new writer and develop my relationships with them.
My good editor/curator friend Aiden also introduced a few writers and he said he will continue to do so. I link a few I found from his collection.
We also introduce our editors and compile them in a collection.
Thank you for reading my thoughts and feelings.

I am a retired healthcare scientist in his mid-70s, and I have several grandkids who keep me going and inspire me to write on this platform. I am also the chief editor of the Health and Science publication on Medium.com. As a giveback activity, I volunteered as an editor for Illumination publications, supporting many new writers. I will be happy to read, publish, and promote your stories. You may connect with me on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Quora, where I share stories I read.
