I’ve had some concerns about the conversations on gender equality. Even when we all believe we’ve made headway, I feel there’s more to be done.
Although I was concerned about writing on women’s issues, I decided I needed to share my opinion anyway, albeit making sure the message was properly understood.
This is an excerpt from the story:
I’m afraid the world will crucify her just because she’s a woman, and as a father, I would have that concern because, as a man, I have seen firsthand what other men say about women.
I have seen the steps they take to humble women like that. I know my daughter will be targeted.
As a father, I will give her some guidance. However, she’s a kid, and sometimes she may do what she wants. I don’t want that to be a life-changing mistake.
I want a world where she doesn’t have to pay dearly for her choices. A world free from comments like, “Well, from her dressing, she asked for it.” Or “She wasn’t raised properly.”
