The Lessons Learned from the Deaths of Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon

The baby squirrel’s mom lay dead on the road. The couple found the baby squirrel close by its mother. For seven years the couple documented Peanut the Squirrel and a Rescued raccoon named “Fred” and broadcast their exploits on social media where they were stars.

I don’t why it is that people can’t mind their own business, but a neighbor or neighbors complained to authorities. The Longo’s home was raided by the State Department of Environmental Conservation.

Peanut and Fred were Euthanised to be checked for Rabies. I would be mad if it were my pets getting put down, Hell, I’m mad now and they weren’t mine. It’s not right.

Why does the government have to have its nose and hand in everything? This is not about public safety, it’s about exerting authority. A neighbor couldn’t mind their own business and some bureaucrat wanted control.

Why are people so eager to stick their noses into their neighbor’s business? How were those cute creatures impacting their lives? They weren’t being harmed. They ratted in their neighbors to be jerks, there is no other reason.

Why was the Longo home raided with guns drawn? Can you imagine how terrifying that is? I don’t have to imagine, because it happened to me.

It’s been over ten years ago, but I owned a trailer park in Largo Florida. I shared the place with my uncle and our cats. We had lived there almost a year when the Largo Police Department raided my trailer with guns drawn.

The second time it happened, I was in bed sound asleep when I woke up with two cops standing over my bed, one with a shotgun. It scared me and angered me.

Final Thought:

The whole thing with Peanut and Fred is wrong on many levels. Do you want to live in a Country where this petty crap goes on? I sure don’t want to. People need to leave their neighbors alone and governments need to not be so quick to show their dominance.

Leave us alone.
