Dear tech friends and gamers,
I have an intriguing story to share about my engineer friend Fred, who recently reached out with a surprising request.
Fred asked if I could be a referee for him. Naturally, I asked, ‘For what?’
He explained that he was applying for a senior backend engineer position at Medium — a platform I have been writing on for years.
Then he dropped a bombshell: Medium had nearly gone under, and Fred wanted to be part of the team working to save it.
That revelation hit me hard. It explained a lot. My earnings on the platform had plummeted to just one cent per article recently, and I had been wondering what was going on.
Fred said, ‘You have 20K followers on Medium, and you might know some of the managers there. Could you vouch for me?’
I agreed, not just because I wanted to help Fred, but because I was curious. How did he know so much about Medium’s inner workings, especially when I, a long-time contributor, was in the dark?
To my surprise, Fred sent me a link with a screenshot featuring Tony, Medium’s CEO, along with some fascinating details.
Tony had apparently made bold moves to rescue the company from collapse. Seeing that, I felt a deep sense of empathy. Tony’s decisions must have been tough, but they had kept the platform alive.
This explains why I fell into the 1 cent club lately. While my training program is getting 5 star reviews on Udemy and thousands of reads on on Substack it only earns 1 cent on Medium.com. I hope Tony can help me to double this as I want to be in the 2 cent club like Dr Broadly.
The good old Mike needs to quit sulking and start celebrating — earning 2 cents makes him the Jeff Bezos of Medium! I am honestly jealous of his fortune.

This will definitely make it into the next episode of my blockbuster script, Medium Almost Died!
I am casting Tony as the lead — after all, who better to play the hero than the CEO who saved the day? Of course, I will round out the cast with Ariel, Scott, Buster, and the rest of the crew. They are the perfect ensemble for my cinematic masterpiece.
