I’ve been researching and writing about wellness for over 15 years. To fix myself. Weird body aches, insomnia that kept getting worse, and lifelong mood issues (anxiety, depression).
After my daughter was born in 1998 I had severe postpartum depression. Later, chronic body aches and exhaustion. I’m not talking about just new mother exhaustion. This was different.
After my daughter was born doctors thought I had fibromyalgia (I didn’t).
For years I was a mess. Insomnia about killed me. On my knees sobbing nervous break downs. Chugging vodka at 3am to get back to sleep after being awake for five hours. A did a sleep lab. Meds. Supplements. Meditation. Tapping. Hypnosis. Name it.
I was anxious, depressed, exhausted. Overwhelmed every day but I had a daughter to take care of. So I painted a fake smile for the outside world but my husband (always supportive) saw me falling apart.
I spent hundreds of hours researching the causes of body aches, mood issues and insomnia.
Conventional doctors totally missed what was going on. Even my endocrinologist. I eventually had to become my own medical detective with the help of a functional/holistic MD.

The best health practitioners know this.
And another thing, when it comes to people in our lives who make us feel like shit on the regular? No.
Boundaries are part of wellness.
Mean, toxic people who don’t try to change over time? Get rid of them.
Yes, even close family and friends. It doesn’t matter how long you’ve known someone if they make you feel like shit about yourself. Despite gentle, then not so gentle conversations.
