Celebrating Book Award Winner Scarlet Ibis James and her Q2 2025 Firebird International Book Award.
New York, NY – Author Scarlet Ibis James has been recognized for her literary talent, earning a prestigious Firebird International Book Award in the second quarter of 2025. James was a winner in the African American Fiction category for her work.[1]
The Firebird International Book Awards, which announces winners quarterly, donates all entry fees to a shelter project, providing handmade pillowcases and children’s books to women and children in long-term shelters.[1][2]
A rising voice in autobiographical fiction, Scarlet Ibis James is a Black woman writer based in New York City with Trinbagonian roots.[3][4] Her writing often explores the intricate dance between love and self-discovery, deeply influenced by her rich cultural background.[3] James is known for crafting intergenerational tales that resonate with the rhythms of both Trinidad and Tobago and New York City.[4] Her characters are often portrayed as complex and unapologetically real.[3]
In addition to her recent Firebird award, James’s work, “Scarlet Yearnings: Stories of Love and Desire,” was a finalist for the 2025 American Legacy Book Awards in the Multicultural Fiction category.[5]
