A Brief Intro to My Future and the Legacy I want to Leave Behind Me Based on a Conversation with My Writing Mentor
Dear Subscribers,
My name is Steven Moriarty. I am an aspiring writer and book author.
This is my first post at Digitalmehmet Content Ecosystem. I joined the ILLUMINATION community as invited by Dr Mehmet Yildiz, who volunteered to mentor me to find my voice as a writer and blogger.
He asked me, Steven, what are your goals?
This simple question challenged my mind. I said:
Well, to put it simply, I want to be successful.
So then, he asked the question is, What does that look like for you?
The honest truth is that success looks different for every person. For some, it could be to get rich and retire on an island somewhere. To others, it could involve being a famous movie star or singer.
Well to me, success means having enough money to provide for my family and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. A gentle breeze, the birds singing, a beautiful sunset. Time for my faith, and for my friends and family. Trying to get the most out of life.
So then, he asked: What are your goals that can help make that success happen?
My answer was honest and transparent to my mentor. I said:
I’ve wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. Words have always come easily to me. I was reading at a college level in second grade. I’ve always gotten lost in books. I had very few friends growing up, so I immersed myself in the worlds of fiction. I loved and appreciated the ability of some people to capture the imagination.
To help you get lost in distant worlds, far removed from this one. I’ve always wanted to be able to do that. I’ve always wanted to be a bestselling author.
In fact, I am currently writing a novel, but I got distracted and have only written the first chapter before I got distracted. That’s always happened with me. I want to do everything, so I end up doing nothing.
But now, at 40 years of age, I am narrowing my focus and going to focus mainly on writing, which I believe is my true passion. I want to write both fiction and non-fiction.
I want to inform, to inspire, to do the same things that writers throughout history have done-capture the imagination and transport people to distant worlds.
Above all, I believe in the power of stories to change minds and spark debate. I’ve made a complete curriculum that will get me where I need to go, and I am currently working on developing a daily writing practice and trying to harness my creativity. I KNOW I can do this, I just need to stay focused. It’s time to get to work!
Writing is therepeutic to me and I also want to leave a legacy behind me.
Thank you for reading my first post, and I look forward to your feedback.
