Let me introduce you to another one of Western Cape’s gems. Just 45 minutes from Hermanus, lies Gansbaai. It’s a small fishing village that have become world-famous for its wild ocean adventures and untouched natural beauty. It is known as the “Great White Shark capitol of the world.”
This is where adrenaline junkies meet conservationists. Quiet coastal life blends with unforgettable experiences. Whether you are visiting for a day or weekend, Gansbaai has stories waiting for you. Adventures and flavors are waiting for you to come and explore.
Whale watching and Big 5 Marine
The best time to visit is from June-November. That’s when Gansbaai’s coast transforms into a stage for the Southern Right Whales, dolphins sightings, sharks, African penguins, and the Cape fur seals.
This is the region’s famous Big 5 Marine. The locals love telling the story of the first time a boat tour group spotted all five in one morning. That’s a rare and treasured memory.
I wish I was there to see that. So far, I’ve only seen four of the Big 5, but no dolphins yet. And, not all of them at the same time. It is only something I can dream about..
