How Self-Talk Shapes Your Reality
Don’t fill your mind with lies
When I first tried to write a story, I called myself, a “Wannabe Writer,” I would tell people, “ I will be a writer someday.” I never made progress and I never finished anything I tried to write.
You’re like the way I was ten years ago. You’re spinning your wheels, wondering if you will ever be successful, or make progress at all.
I changed the dialogue that played on a loop in my brain
I started seeing success. My writing has improved and my earnings on Medium are low. They’re nothing like they were the first year on the platform.
The one thing that’s driving my success, is I have changed the way I talk to myself. I’m not a “Wannabe writer,” I’m not a “Fledging Writer,” I’m a writer.
Words have power, talk to yourself wisely
It’s not only how you talk to yourself, writers write. Tell yourself all the time, “ I’m a prolific writer, I write quality content every day.” I promise you, that you will see improvement in your stats and your earnings.
It’s not only with writing. Paying attention to what you say to yourself will have a positive outlook on your life offline as well. Another way changing my interior monologue helped me was in my social life.
I was alone and lonely, it was on me to change that
During my last year in Florida, I found myself in my fifties living alone for the first time in my life. After a lifetime of a fear of intimacy, I began answering personal Ads.
I was able to do that because I quit telling myself how slow-witted and unattractive I was. It was a little too late in life to learn how to have relationships.
I made up for lost time. The thought occurred to me more than once, “ Lawson, you lied to yourself for years.” I’m telling you. if you have to. Stand in front of a mirror several times a day. look at your reflection and tell yourself how attractive and intelligent you are.
Get those words deep down in your spirit
Tell yourself that until it gets down deep in your being because it’s true. Life is too short to not be the person you know you can be. It’s not easy to do.
Other people have programmed you. You have built on that negative programming. Pray about it, use positive affirmations, whatever works for you.
You don’t have to exist that way, change your self-talk and live
Change the loop that has been playing non-stop in your brain your whole life. You can change. I’m doing it. It’s a work in progress, and I have come a long way.
I have more work to do. It’s a life-long process, and it’s worth it. If I can do it, you can do it as well. You can do better than working and sleeping and staying home alone on your nights off.
Life can be hard, relationships can be harder still. Don’t make things harder by tearing yourself down. If you don’t love and believe in yourself, good luck finding someone to love and believe in you.
Final Thought:
Watch what you think and say to yourself. To some extent, you create your reality. Don’t base that reality on lies. I promise you, you’re not the loser you have programmed yourself to be.
You control what you think and say about yourself, so why don’t you speak self-love and confidence? I am making changes, and so can you.
