Biswanath Datta was born in Calcutta, India. He is an avid reader and a great lover of books, nature, and chocolates. Writing is his passion.

He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, specialising in Environmental Engineering from Jadavpur University, Calcutta, with further education at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta, and the University of Aberdeen, UK.

As an Environmental Engineer, and a former CEO, he has worked in India and several countries in Asia and Africa, such as Iran, Oman, the UAE, Yemen and Mauritius.

Apart from his professional assignments, he has always been interested in academics and has written many technical papers, which have been published in reputed journals, proceedings of seminars and workshops, receiving acclaim.

As an Educator, he has worked as an Assistant Professor and a visiting faculty member at reputed educational and research institutions throughout his career. When he hung up his professional boots, he started writing on Medium.com, ManyStories.com, LinkedIn, etc. These have been well received by readers from across geographies, encouraging him to continue writing.

A hardcore engineer, Biswanath’s left brain produces incisive stories – non-fiction with analytical rigour and a highly reasoned approach that keeps readers engaged. What does he write about? War, Colonialism, History, Science, and Spirituality, to name a few.

Interestingly, his right brain is as active as an empathetic human; he writes short stories about deep emotions, hidden pains, and complexities of relationships of ordinary mortals.

He has been continuously writing on Medium since 2020. Most of his stories were “Chosen for Further Distribution”.  You can find his stories at: https://medium.com/@bdatta.enc

Biswanath is a published author.  “The Autumn Leaves” is his first book of fiction, an anthology of short stories.

Based on the theme of Autumn, this collection of short stories deal with the crossroads of life. Whether it is the profound question of needing God, the relationship with mother, or love…the stories bring out the autumn of human lives and uncertainties of human lives. Does a tree in a courtyard really command emotion? Will a little girl remember the love received from a stepfather? Does love really triumph over all odds? Do maids ever get their dignity? and do nations remember their mistakes? Each story will leave a deep impression on your mind.

With stories of betrayal and loyalty, cruelty and kindness, hopelessness and hope, revolution and human bonds, The Autumn Leaves will settle in the corners of your mind and nudge your ideas about life and autumn.

We’d like to share some sample stories from his collection:

Tale of A Naked King

Who Takes Us to War?

The Mango Tree

Billionaires’ Wealth, Poverty and Democracy

Science and Politics: Dichotomy of
an Uneasy Alliance
