Using quality management checklists for writers ensures consistency, accuracy, and adherence to standards, which boosts the quality of written work. Checklists prepared by experienced editors can help writers maintain a structured process, reducing errors, missed details, and inconsistencies.
They serve as a guide for meeting deadlines, following style guides, and ensuring clarity. This improves the overall reliability and professionalism of the content, streamlining revisions and enhancing client satisfaction. Ultimately, they facilitate accountability and higher productivity by keeping writers focused on critical tasks.
As editors we noticed that using a well-designed checklist can significantly improve the qualities of your stories and essays. When established ILLUMINATION in 2020, our chief editor, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, created a helpful checklist to guide the writers of his publications.
Since then, many writers have used this checklist, and we have noticed a significant improvement in their writing skills. Most of them no longer need to use a checklist as it become a second nature to them.
After using the checklist a few times, while self editing your stories, it becomes a habit. So, you don’t need to use it in the future. However, using a checklist can be valuable for new writers in the beginning.
Illumination Integrated Publications support all levels of writers. We classify them as Level 1, 2, and 3. Many writers at the level 1 who used this checklist improved the quality of their content, gained more readers, and reached the level 2 or even 3 capabilities. They transformed into the category of experienced or accomplished writers in the last five years.
Asking various questions as a checklist can significantly increase the quality and readability of your articles at any level. It might also increase the chance of curation and even virality for your content, bringing you more followers, readers, and subscribers.
When boost program introduced on Medium, Dr Yildiz also created a comprehensive checklist to help writers to increase the chance of boosting. This detailed checklist helped hundreds of writers to improve their writing skills. The story got many comments and over 8K claps.

Then new writers asked a more condensed checklist to use in their generic stories. Based on this feedback, Dr Yildiz created one to satisfy their needs. Dr Yildiz made the following profound statement in his condensed checklist:
Over 500 of his proteges used this one-page checklist. He asked them to spend 2 minutes reading it before starting a story. All of them found it helpful. After a year, they all became confident writers without needing a checklist.
He says that “committing to this checklist for 30 to 90 days, depending on your writing frequency, will elevate your writing and rewire your brain to think like a seasoned storyteller. You will naturally seek more advanced techniques to improve your craft, which I will share in a future article.”
