How can this milestone enhance inclusivity and diversity on the platform, making it more vital and sustainable and benefiting writers and readers around the globe?
As a dedicated writer, reader, editor, curator, content strategist, and multiple publication owners on Medium, I am delighted and thrilled to share some incredible news highlighting the platform’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and global support. In this post I provide guidance and inspiration to new writers interested in joining the Medium Partner Program especially from those countries Stripe was not supported on Medium. I will cover Substack in another article as unlike Medium, Substack still does not support Stripe in many countries. There is a workaround for Substack writers I introduced in a previous newsletter in Substack. You an also read it on Medium.com if you have an account.
As a long-time contributor to the Medium Partner Program and a four-time Friend of Medium, I am deeply invested in the vitality and sustainability of this wonderful community. Today, I am excited to announce that Medium has made a significant stride in supporting creators from 77 new countries!
This expansion is particularly meaningful to me. Since establishing my publications on Medium, I have received countless inquiries from writers who could not participate in the Medium Partner Program (MPP) because their countries were not supported by Stripe.
A large portion of these inquiries came from India, home to nearly 3,000 of ILLUMINATION’s 31,000 authentic contributors. In addition, approximately 4.46% of the 157 volunteer editors of my publications are from India. With this latest update, these voices will be heard, recognized, and rewarded.
Earlier today, I read a fascinating post by Elvina Fan on the Medium blog announcing the expansion of the Medium Partner Program. This means the program is now available in 77 new countries, bringing the total to 119 supported countries.
This change will address the community’s most requested feature, demonstrating Medium’s responsiveness and dedication to its users.
One minor update is the introduction of a $10 minimum payout threshold. Writers must now accumulate at least $10 in earnings before payouts are issued.
While this may pose a slight challenge for new writers earning smaller amounts, it ensures more efficient processing and distribution of earnings. I remember my excitement when I earned my first few cents on Medium with no followers, so I understand the significance of every dollar for beginners.
Another exciting development is the expansion of the Boost Nomination Program. Editors from the newly supported countries can now join the Boost Nomination Program, enhancing the visibility of exceptional stories and allowing independent editors to earn a flat fee for nominated stories.
Although I stepped down as a boost nominator on August 1, 2024 for various reasons, I am overjoyed that these countries can now benefit from this special program, helping aspiring writers and publication owners grow and thrive. My resignation might give an opportunity to a pub owner from these new countries. So I see it as another win, as I articulated in my post.

What is the Medium Partner Program?
The Medium Partner Program is designed for freelance writers and it enables writers to earn money for the stories and essays they publish on Medium.com based on engagement and activity from Medium members. How to Set Up Your Stripe Account on Medium.com
Once you have joined the Medium Partner Program, follow the steps below:
- Go to your Medium account settings by clicking on your profile icon at the top right of the screen and selecting “Settings” from the dropdown.
- Scroll down to the “Partner Program” section.
- Click “Set up payouts with Stripe.”
- You will be redirected to Stripe’s website to create or connect your Stripe account.
- If you already have a Stripe account, simply log in.
- If you don’t have a Stripe account, follow the instructions to create one by entering your email, country, and personal details.
- Personal identification information (e.g., your name, address, and Social Security Number if you’re in the US).
- Bank account details where your earnings will be deposited.
- Follow the on-screen steps to complete the setup. Stripe may request additional verification documents depending on your country.

What is Substack Mastery Community and How to Join It?
I’d like to give a quick update on community building on Substack bridging with other platforms like Medium, NewsBreak, or Vocal Media.
Book authors need to create communities to survive and thrive. Integrating Substack with Medium is a great idea. To this end, as a community builder, I created a philanthropic organization that will empower creators, freelance writers, and content entrepreneurs with a commercial arm.
I documented the strategy and high-level plan in a story. Please feel free to ask questions and provide feedback. Refraining from perfection, I choose a progressive path.
