Happy weekend, dear new readers. I started this new curation service from my secondary account around four months ago, and I mainly use it for curation. My main account is Dr Mehmet Yildiz. For those who don’t know me, I’m the owner/chief editor of ILLUMINATION Integrated publication on Medium.com, supporting 32K+ authentic writers contributing to the platform and illuminating society in different capacities.
I have several reasons for starting this series. We have published over 1.5 million stories, and our curators have featured around 50K so far. I joined the team as a curator.
However, in August and September I couldn’t continue with this service as I was busy writing a book to guide writers on Substack. I am grateful that the book was published in digital and paperback formats giving me a relief. As a bonus, beta readers loved it and some decided to share and purchase it so it hit the best selling lists in its categories.
For those interested in taking their Substack to another level, here is a link where you can buy the Substack Mastery book through multiple online bookstores globally. The paperback is also available on Amazon and will be published on other stores to soon.
However the exciting ride was not smooth when the pre-release was about to go online on 26 September 3 days before the due date as An Amazon Robot Ruined My Best-Selling Book Status, and Caring Human Employees Couldn’t Fix It. Therefore I decided not to make Amazon my primary publisher for pre-releases anymore. I explained it in the attached story:

We will focus on our new publication Substack Mastery”. My goal is to help every writer to grow their audience and own their content through newsletters. Related to this point, I also closed my best publication, ILLUMINATION-Curated and replaced it with Curated Newsletters. I decided to Withdraw from the Pilot Boost Program Intentionally to Create Better Outcomes for the Community.
Recently, I wrote a story about how much effort goes into writing a good story on this platform. But when they get no views, it is soul-crushing for writers. Community Building on Substack Bridging with Medium and Patreon
Many writers ask why I emphasize the community aspect of platforms so much. The answer is simple: platforms like Substack can feel lonely and isolated without a strong community.
I learned this firsthand during my first six months on Medium, which was anything but enjoyable. Building a supportive community changed everything.
Besides, I have yet to encounter any successful writer, bestselling author, or leading Substack creator who thrives without being part of or leading a community. Community isn’t just an add-on; it’s essential for lasting success.
Integrating Substack with Medium is a great idea. To this end, as a community builder, I created a philanthropic organization that will empower creators, freelance writers, and content entrepreneurs with a commercial arm. I documented the strategy and high-level plan in a story. Please feel free to ask questions and provide feedback. Refraining from perfection, I choose a progressive path.
