An Award Winning Business Woman, Thought Leader, and Technology / Entrepreneurship Writer
Dear readers and writers, happy weekend. I couldn’t post interviews for a while as I was very busy writing a five new books, which two of them were successfully published and one of them already hit the best sellers list globally and starting the Substack Mastery pilot this month.
So, welcome to my new interview story, which introduces another inspiring and empowering writer whose writing and work impressed me greatly.
I enjoy interacting with people from diverse cultures, countries, and professional backgrounds. I have been interviewing professionals for a long time. I am writing this from my secondary account for curation purposes to find new readers for these interviews on this platform. For those unfamiliar, my main account on Medium is Dr Mehmet Yildiz.
On this platform, I specifically enjoy interviewing writers from different backgrounds. Each writer’s interview is special to me as each person is unique. My goal is to introduce them to my audience so that they can meet another interesting/relatable person on this planet and explore their work. I discussed the Importance and Remarkable Benefits of Interviews in My Professional and Personal Life.
In this interview, I’d like to introduce you to one of my favorite authors Shamim Rajani who has remarkable entrepreneurial skills. Shamim is an important contact in my network as she empowers women in tech.
Over the last 42 year in tech industry, I noticed that women struggled in this male dominated industry and Shamim is one those who is changing this landscape one step at a time with her wisdom and hard work.
Shamim is a technologist. After graduating from the Lahore University of Management Sciences she became an entrepreneur now empowering and inspiring thousands of people globally.
Meet Shamim Rajani

Hi Shamim, please introduce yourself and share a bit about your journey?
I’m Co-Founder and COO of Genetech Solutions, an end-to-end technology solutions company that I’ve had the honor of building from the ground up.
What started as a one-person startup with a single website project has grown into a multi-million-dollar business, serving hundreds of clients worldwide.
Alongside my role at Genetech, I’m a strong advocate for diversity and inclusion in tech, which led me to start CodeGirls, a boot camp focused on upskilling young women in Pakistan, and now South Africa.
My journey has been shaped by a commitment to quality, resilience, and continuous growth, and I’m thrilled to share that mission with others.
What inspired you to start your journey in tech, and how did Genetech Solutions come into being?
My journey began with a single email request for a website design back in 2004. What seemed like a straightforward project quickly became the foundation for Genetech Solutions.
I started small — just me, a handful of determined individuals, and a vision to build something meaningful. Today, I’m proud to be the Co-Founder and COO of Genetech, an established software company with over 100 tech experts across Pakistan, Canada, and the U.S., serving clients worldwide. It wasn’t easy; we faced challenges, built our reputation from scratch, and, by 2006, broke even. We’ve been growing ever since.
What’s next for Genetech Solutions? Are there any upcoming projects or goals you’re particularly excited about?
Genetech is continuously looking to the future, with plans to strengthen our global footprint even further. We’ve recently attended global events like Tech Crunch, Web Summit, Collision Canada, Austin Startup Week, and more, where we’ve built connections that allow us to empower businesses worldwide.
At Genetech, we have established the Emerging Technologies Lab, where we’re exploring innovative solutions in AI, agile ecosystems, and cutting-edge tech. Our mission has always been about lasting value rather than quick wins. We’re focused on forming strong partnerships and expanding our influence internationally to help businesses not just compete but thrive.
Genetech Solutions recently started offering AI consultation services. What motivated this shift, and how do you approach responsible AI development?
AI is a game-changer, and it’s essential to offer solutions that are innovative but grounded in responsibility.
Our Emerging Technologies Lab was created to explore technologies like AI and integrate them with a focus on ethical standards, data privacy, and user security.
We now offer AI consultations designed to help clients adopt AI in their everyday usage. With AI, our goal is to enhance human decision-making and provide proof-of-concept prototypes that showcase tangible benefits before full-scale implementation. This approach aligns with our commitment to delivering solutions that serve people, not just technology.
Can you tell us more about initiatives like CodeGirls? Why is empowering young women in tech a core focus for you?
CodeGirls is very close to my heart. I founded it as a way to bridge the gender gap in tech and improve financial inclusion for women.
Starting in Karachi, Pakistan, in 2018, we have now extended our reach to remote towns like Skardu, empowering young women in underserved areas. Globally, we also have a presence in Cape Town, SA.
Through CodeGirls, we provide a structured tech boot camp that equips participants with the skills and confidence needed to succeed. My mission is to ensure that these young women are given the tools to build a career in tech, change their financial outlook, and contribute meaningfully to the industry.
Why did you join ILLUMINATION, and how have you found it so far?
I joined ILLUMINATION because it felt like a welcoming community that prioritizes knowledge-sharing and meaningful connections. I’m inspired by the range of perspectives and the opportunity to learn from so many different voices in the community.
What are your hobbies, or what excites or entertains you?
When I’m not working, I like to try new recipes, move things around at home so it feels warmer, keep up to date on World Politics, and figure out what to invest in next!
What are the top three books that affected your life?
Well, some recent books that I’ve enjoyed reading to polish my leadership skills and for personal development include “Think Again” by Adam Grant, “God’s Debris” by Scott Adam, and “Pinnacle” by Gregory Cleary and Steve Preda.
I’m also big on history books, and some of my favorites are
Daughter of Persia by Sattareh Farmanfarmaian
The Help by Kathryn Stockett
After the Prophet by Lesley Hazleton
Why do you write on Medium?
For a few reasons:
- I have enjoyed the articles that I read here and feel that there is a great audience on Medium that I can resonate with and learn from at the same time.
- I also feel that it is time to share my professional and personal experiences with the world, and what better medium to do that than Medium 🙂
- Writing here gives me a space to reflect on the industry’s challenges and opportunities, and I find it valuable for my own growth as well as for anyone who might be at an earlier stage in their journey. It’s a way to contribute knowledge and encourage open dialogue.
