The last days of November were hard for me.
Despite engaging with other writers, I wasn’t getting any reads. It seemed I had offended the Medium algorithm.
I sent a story to Deep.Sweet.Valuable (a publication). It was accepted, but even after getting curated, it’s still struggling to get views and reads.
December is my fourth month on Medium. I think the Medium gods won’t be smiling at me anytime soon.
Even a story that became an editor’s pick hasn’t enjoyed substantial engagement.
Do you want to know what even shocks me?
I wrote a story that went viral. In that story, I advised writers not to be economical with claps. Well, some people decided to show me through claps that they disagreed with my opinion.
I’m telling you, Medium is no place for the fainthearted.
I’m going to give it another try this month. I love writing, so I’m going to keep going. I won’t be upgrading to Friend of Medium, though. I think some guys have all the luck, but sadly, at this moment, I’m yet to have that fortune, so it’s a good business idea to play it safe.
I love taking risks. I’m an amateur investor and entrepreneur, but this isn’t a risk I’m willing to take. If my work gets more visibility, then I’ll gladly take the plunge.
Since today is the 1st of December, we should all check up on our Medium friends and be cautious not to violate Medium rules. I’ll advise new writers to read those rules.
This is a wonderful platform, so let’s all keep doing what we love, and I’m sure even if the results aren’t favourable, we’ll reap the fruits of our labour in good time.
So stay blessed and true. I wish you a great month on Medium. I hope you achieve all your writing goals.
Thanks for your support.
