1 Corinthians 1:21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, it pleased God through the folly of what we preach to save those who believe.
The gospel sounds foolish to the unbelieving world. Having your god die, and in such a manner—the crucifixion of Christ is a “stumbling block” to the Jews and “folly” to the Greeks. (v 23). The Jews were expecting a conquering king for the Messiah. And the Greeks, standing in for all Gentiles, had pagan gods that could never be killed.
