Hi there, friends. Back on May 7, I wrote a post on my Substack about my experience with Writing.com. I would like to share some insight with you about Writing.com as a tool you want to have in your writer’s toolbox. Writing.com is a great site. A husband-and-wife team created it years ago. They continue to run it with great efficiency. I love Writing.com because it provides a great library of tools. Plus, there’s a community that spans the entire platform. No matter if you write fiction or nonfiction, you’ll find a home here. Whether it’s science fiction, horror, or something else, this is the place for you.
What I loved best about Writing.com is the various contests they offer. One exercise I did almost every day was the Writer’s Cramp. I used it as my warm-up before writing. Here, every day, they run a contest and give you a prompt to write a short story of 1,000 words or 40 lines for poetry. Every day after 11:59 AM EST, the best short story or poem wins 10,000 Gift Points. You can use gift points to buy or renew your subscription in the Writers.com store. You can get anything you want. You can also use points on the website or pay it forward by rewarding other writers for their good work. There are several fantastic benefits to this activity. It is motivational; it gives you the desire to compete and write something for the day. One thousand words, and you can enter the contest. You wrote something! This is awesome! If you win, you can spend what you have earned in many ways. It builds community. You meet other writers and read their work. If you like something they wrote, you can review it and send them gift points.
There is so much to do on the website. They offer many contests to join. You can also get newsletters based on your writing. They have a newsletter for about every genre and subject you can think of. You can use instant messaging and chat services to talk with other writers. You can join several great critique groups. Many of these let you earn gift points when you send out reviews. By default, Writing.com will pay you so many gift points per review.
I have not been on the website, but I did log in today to see that it offers all the same fantastic features as it always has. I have been using this fantastic platform off and on for the past ten years or so. The website hosts an anniversary every October. They offer many prizes, contests, and much more besides their daily offerings.
If you want a lively community for your writing journey, check out writing.com. It is a fantastic community of writers, some of whom have been here for years. I can’t even begin to write about all the fantastic things the website offers.
The website inspired me to write again. I even started sending out my short stories. One of my stories, “Inferno,” came from a Writer’s Cramp contest. It’s in my collection, “Supernatural Realms: Tales from Another Dimension.” You can find it for sale on Amazon. They have published “Inferno” twice online.
Writing can be a lonely job. But Writing.com offers a vibrant community. You’ll find resources to help you grow. Contests exist for almost every topic imaginable, along with many extra options.
If you are a writer of supernatural or horror, hop on over and check out my Substack Vault of the Supernatural. I am building a community of supernatural and horror writers like me. I’m creating templates and character sketches. I also have an Accountability Club and a Weekly Writers Critique Group. There’s so much more, too! I have an amazing promotion! The first 100 subscribers get a 30-day free trial. I have 99 spots left. I would love to have you inside the Vault. Till next time, friends, have a great rest of your day. Thanks so much for reading the post.
