Somya’s background in coding helps her create impactful tech solutions, while her artistic endeavors provide an escape. She values honesty, empathy, and connection in her writing, aiming to resonate with readers. Ultimately, Somya seeks to intertwine emotion, art, and technology in her work. The interview is conducted by Dr Mehmet Yildiz, owner and chief editor of ILLUMINATION Publications on Medium, Substack, and Patreon.
Dear Subscribers and Readers of Digitalmehmet content ecosystem,
Today, it is a great pleasure to introduce you to Somya Golchha, who is a relatively new writer on this platform but not new to writing. Somya joined my publications as a writer, writing from the heart. She is also active on social media. For example, over 10,000 professionals follow her on LinkedIn.
Somya also recently volunteered to serve as an editor for my tech publication, Technology Hits on Medium.com. What I like most about Somya is her community spirit, altruistic approach to life, and support for her readers both as a talented technologist and a creative artist.
Somya also develops free software to guide others. For example, her recent Google Chrome Extension, titled SoftSpace (Emotional Companion), is a valuable tool for users who need to get daily inspiration and feed their journals with valuable information.
I decided to publish this on Synergy, serving creators and freelancers, to create synergy for writers, readers, editors, professionals, and thought leaders.
Meet Somya Golchha, Hailing from India

Hi Somya, please tell us a bit about your background.
Hi Dr Mehmet, thank you for the opportunity. As a new writer on this platform, your kind invitation meant a lot to me. I will be happy to share a few facts about my background.
I have been working as a Senior Software Engineer in India for over 6 years, with experience in backend development, microservices, and AI-driven systems. Currently, I work for Visa.
Alongside tech, I’m also an artist and a writer at heart. I paint, write reflective pieces, and build small creative projects that blend art, tech, and storytelling.
Over the years, I’ve realized I’m someone who balances ambition with creativity, growing in my career while building my own artistic identity.
Why did you choose to become a software engineer?
I became a software engineer because I’ve always been drawn to solving problems and creating something meaningful out of logic, structure, and creativity.
Coding felt like a place where I could build real solutions from scratch — things that impact people without them even realizing the work behind it.
But more than that, software engineering gave me:
- the freedom to think critically,
- the chance to work on large systems that serve millions, and
- a career path where learning never stops.
I love that technology keeps evolving every day. It challenges me, pushes me to grow, and allows me to blend creativity with engineering, whether it’s building microservices, designing scalable systems, or now exploring AI and next-gen agent architectures.
What projects are you working on?
I’m currently working on large-scale backend systems, multi-agent AI systems in Java for my blog series, and building a digital art business. Across these, I solve problems related to scalability, automation, AI integration, security, and creativity.
What do health and well-being mean to you?
For me, health is peace. It’s mental clarity, emotional balance, and having enough energy to live fully, not just survive.
Well-being means to me being kind to myself, slowing down when needed, and listening to my body.
After a recent phase of stress-related vertigo, I’ve learned that success feels empty if my mind and body are tired.
What are your hobbies, or what excites or entertains you?
Painting is my biggest escape. I love playing with colors, textures, and emotions.
I also love writing, especially reflective, emotional, truth-based stories. Learning new technologies, exploring AI’s capabilities at the technical level, and building creative side projects also excite me.
And lately, traveling and observing different cultures has become a source of inspiration too
What are the top three books that affected your life?
- Atomic Habits by James Clear. I liked it because it taught me the power of small, consistent efforts.
- The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. This book helped me trust my own journey.
- Man’s Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. This book changed how I see suffering, resilience, and purpose. I also enjoyed your book chapter about the Logotherapy of Dr Frankl.
I noticed you created a Chrome extension lately. What was your purpose, and how can users benefit from it?
I created SoftSpace to give people a calm, private space to check in with their emotions while working online.
Since we spend so much time in our browsers, I wanted mental well-being support to be easily accessible without feeling heavy or distracting.
Users can benefit by having a simple, judgment-free space to reflect, track moods, and build emotional awareness, right where they already work.
Why do you write on Medium?
Medium gives me a space to express what’s real, such as my thoughts, my stories, my struggles, and my growth.
I write to help others feel seen, to share what I learn, and to document my journey.
Medium also gives me a chance to grow as a writer, connect with people emotionally, and earn through my creativity.
Do you write on other platforms like Substack? If so, how do you find them?
Yes, I recently started writing on Substack as well. I use it for my “Pause & Reflect” series — deeper, more personal essays. Medium feels like a public stage, while Substack feels like a warm, intimate room where I can speak directly to readers who truly connect with my voice.
What are your values as a writer?
- Honesty — I write what I truly feel, not what sounds perfect.
- Empathy — I want readers to feel understood.
- Depth — My stories are emotional, layered, and thoughtful.
- Consistency — I write almost every day to improve myself and help others.
How do you connect with your readers?
By writing with heart and from the heart.
I share stories from my life, my emotions, my struggles, and the truths we all feel but rarely speak out loud.
Readers connect because I don’t try to be a “perfect writer.” I try to be a human first.
Why did you join ILLUMINATION, and how do you find it so far?
I joined ILLUMINATION because it’s one of the most active, diverse, and generous communities on Medium. It brings writers from every background together. The editors are supportive, and it helps my stories reach a wider audience. So far, I’ve loved the experience.
What are your top five stories that you want to share with your audience and why?
I want to share the themes and titles of my best stories:
- My article on feminism being misunderstood — because it speaks a truth many women feel.
- My story on the Beed hysterectomy tragedy — because important issues must be spoken about.
- My reflection on losing yourself in responsibilities resonates deeply with Indian women.
- My article on stress and mental health after experiencing vertigo — it’s raw, honest, real, and necessary.
- My piece on cultural differences in India — because empathy and understanding matter more than ever.
What are the success factors for you as a writer?
Success, for me, is when someone says, “Your words made me feel less alone.” Here are the keywords of my success factors:
- Consistency
- Authenticity
- Emotional depth
- Writing with purpose
- Connecting through honesty
- Helping at least one reader feel understood
What do you recommend to new writers?
- Start messy, but start.
- Don’t write for perfection, write for truth.
- Publish often, even when it scares you.
- Read widely.
- Find your own voice, not someone else’s style.
- And don’t chase virality, focus on connection.
What are your plans as a writer or as a professional?
As a writer, I want to grow my Technical series and also keep writing from the heart, publish consistently, and eventually write a book combining emotions, art, and personal stories.
As a professional, I’m preparing to transition to a top product company while also building my long-term creative brand, combining technology, art, and writing into something meaningful.
Many thanks to Somya Golchha for allocating her precious time and giving us a glimpse into her interesting life.
