Dear Subscribers,
Thank you for following the Digitalmehmet Content Ecosystem. Today, I will share an interview that I conducted with an accomplished writer who is a leader in his field. His name is Keith Williams.
I met Keith, who was introduced to me by another great leader, telling me that we would have a lot in common. As Keith also resides in Melbourne, Australia, our communications were much easier. Keith joined our ILLUMINATION community, Slack Workspace, and also became a founding member of the Substack Mastery Boost program, supporting our mission.
Besides his approachability and mindful behaviour, what I like most about Keith is his methodical approach to his work and his creativity in articulating complex leadership concepts in simple terms that anyone can understand. I believe you will enjoy our conversations in this story and will connect with him on Medium, Substack, and other platforms.

Hi Keith, thank you for your time. Let’s start with a bit about your background.
Thank you, Dr Yildiz, for this great opportunity. Over the past year, your guidance, encouragement, and mentorship have had a meaningful impact on my growth as a writer. I’d be happy to give you a bit about my background.
I am a proud Welshman. I grew up in the valleys of South Wales, UK. My father was a coal miner and had a great tenor voice, mum was a beautiful, kind woman who loved to play the piano. They often played and sang at our local pub on a Saturday night.
I spent most of my childhood at my grandparents’ home, as my dad worked shifts down the pit, and he needed peace and quiet to sleep during the day.
My grandfather was a poet and writer. I think I learned so much from him and enjoyed his stories and recollections as we walked along the canal bank under those shady trees. We also played drafts, and he taught me card games. I loved him so much.
My grandmother was a wonderful lady. She also told me lots of stories and baked the best bread and home-cooked scones. My ‘nanny,’ as I called her, was my go-to person whenever I felt sad or needed encouragement. She also helped me so much with my study revision for my exams. I loved her so much, too.
Sadly, my grandfather passed away when I was 10. My father passed away when I was 18, and my grandmother when I was 21. Through a coincidence, my mother remarried, but sadly, she lost my stepfather to a heart attack. Mum passed when I was 29.
I moved away from Wales to seek work in London and found myself working for various companies over the years. I held various roles in accounting, sales, computer programming, recruitment, and HR, before eventually finding my way into a computer training company, where I ‘cut my teeth’ delivering training to temporary agency staff on various types of word processing equipment.
I moved on to an opportunity to learn about PC computer hardware and software. I delivered training in popular spreadsheet, database, graphic, and presentation software.
I was fortunate to move on to a business based in central London, where I became proficient not only in delivering computer-based training to many Fortune 500 companies but also in designing a lot of the computer training manuals used in class.
I was offered an IT computer training role in Australia and moved to Melbourne. I met and married my beautiful wife and have been blessed with her kind, generous, and wonderful parents over the years.
I spent many years working as an IT trainer and managing courseware in Melbourne. I also worked in local government, developed instructional design skills, and created many online learning courses.
So, as you can see, my background is rooted in learning and development. I was blessed with the ability to help people understand complex systems and, just as importantly, an understanding of how people learn.
Over time, my interests shifted toward human behaviour, leadership, and psychology. Writing became a natural extension of that curiosity. I set up my own website and blog in 2016 called Nomad Learning.
Since 2024, I have focused more deliberately on writing and storytelling to explore leadership, mindfulness, and everyday human experience in a thoughtful and practical way.
What do health and well-being mean to you?
Health and well-being mean learning to grow in ways that respect reality rather than constantly pushing against it.
Living with ongoing respiratory challenges has changed how I think about energy, focus, and self-respect. I have learned that growth does not always mean doing more; sometimes it means choosing what truly matters and letting go of what does not.
For me, well-being is about sustainable progress: improving without denial, adapting without losing yourself, and allowing growth to feel honest rather than forced.
What are your hobbies, or what excites or entertains you?
I am deeply interested in ideas, especially small, often overlooked insights that quietly change how we think.
I enjoy reading, writing, reflecting, and observing human behaviour. I am also drawn to mindfulness, creativity, and time spent in nature.
I do not need constant stimulation; I find meaning in thinking deeply and turning everyday observations into something useful for others.
What are the top three books that affected your life?
Rather than specific titles, it has been certain types of books that influenced me most.
Psychology books that explain why we behave the way we do, philosophy and mindfulness writings that emphasise clarity and inner calm, and leadership books that focus on responsibility and service rather than authority. These books helped me develop perspective rather than prescriptions.
Why do you write on Medium?
I write on Medium because it gives me space to find my voice.
When I started, I did not have an audience — just ideas I wanted to explore. Medium allowed me to think out loud, learn from feedback, and connect with thoughtful readers. It still feels like a place where ideas matter, and that is something I value deeply.
Do you write on other platforms like Substack?
Yes, I also write on Substack, where I publish the Lead, Learn, Grow publication. I offer weekly actionable advice on personal and professional development. Content focuses on leadership, productivity, mindfulness, and using new technologies.
I find Medium and Substack complement each other well. Medium is excellent for discovery and conversation, while Substack allows for deeper reflection and continuity. Each serves a different purpose in my writing journey.
What are your values as a writer?
Clarity, honesty, and usefulness.
I try to write in ways that help people grow without feeling pressured to become someone they are not. Advice can easily drift into performance or unrealistic ideals, and I am careful to avoid that.
If a reader finishes an article feeling more capable and more themselves, I believe the writing has achieved its purpose.
How do you connect with your readers?
By being genuine and present.
I write from experience and reflection, and I respond when readers reach out. Thoughtful comments and messages often guide what I explore next. For me, meaningful connection matters far more than metrics.
Why did you join ILLUMINATION, and how do you find it so far?
I joined ILLUMINATION because it felt human from the very beginning.
You have created a space, Dr Yildiz, where writers are encouraged to grow, learn, and support one another rather than compete.
ILLUMINATION feels like a shared journey, and it has played an important role in my development as a writer over the past year.
Who are some writers you follow on ILLUMINATION?
I tend to follow writers who think deeply and write with humility — those who explore psychology, leadership, mindfulness, and lived experience with clarity rather than certainty. I am drawn to voices that feel thoughtful and sincere.
What are your top stories that you want to share with your audience?
A few pieces that reflect my core thinking include:
- What Growthenticity Means and How You Can Leave a Legacy Behind — because it defines the core philosophy that authentic growth comes from embracing your questions, actions, and mistakes as teaching moments for others
- Extract Wisdom From Every Failure: The Debrief Protocol — because it shows how honest reflection on mistakes creates a living legacy of learning for others
- Build Trust Before You Need It: The Pre-Crisis Leader — because it demonstrates that authentic leadership is built through daily actions, not just in moments of crisis
- Curious Minds, Capable Hands: The Art of Learning Through Doing — because it embodies the principle that real growth comes from taking imperfect action rather than waiting for perfect knowledge
- The Identity Lag: Why Your Mindset is Bottlenecking Your Promotion — because it addresses how our internal narratives can either enable or prevent authentic growth
- Unearthing the Undercurrents: The Habit of Asking Deeper Questions — because it illustrates how curiosity and questioning drive meaningful learning and personal development
These stories reflect my belief that Growthenticity is about turning your daily questions, imperfect actions, and honest mistakes into wisdom that makes the people around you wiser, braver, and more capable.
What are the success factors for you as a writer?
Patience, curiosity, and consistency of thought.
Writing is a long journey. I have learned to resist chasing trends and instead focus on refining my voice and staying curious. Trust builds slowly, but it lasts.
What do you recommend to new writers?
Write to understand, not to perform.
Focus on clarity before polish. Publish even when it feels imperfect. Read widely, engage generously, and remember that writing is a practice — something you grow into over time.
What are your plans as a writer or as a professional?
I plan to continue writing at the intersection of leadership, psychology, and mindful living, with a strong focus on sustainable development.
I am also planning to write and publish a book this year: ‘The Authentic Leader’s Compass: Leading with Impact, Integrity, and Empowerment’. It focuses on how to lead effectively from a place of authenticity. It also focuses on building trust and encouraging growth, among others.
I am particularly interested in helping leaders grow in ways that are grounded, realistic, and human, growth that does not come at the expense of health, values, or identity. Writing allows me to explore and share that perspective, and I intend to keep developing it thoughtfully over time.
Thank you Dr Yildiz. ILLUMINATION has been more than a publication for me. It has been a place of learning, reflection, and connection. I am truly grateful for the community you have created and for the generosity with which you support writers.

This interview series is an excellent networking opportunity for new writers who want to build their audiences on multiple platforms.
The more successful people you meet and engage with, the more successful you can become, from my experience. The more you give without expecting, the more you receive, as my grandparents taught me.
