Whales are awesome
Whales are fascinating creatures. One of the items on my Bucket list is to go whale watching in Mexico and Alaska. I’m not a good enough swimmer, and I’m too old and out of shape to learn scuba diving.
If I could dive, I would be out there with the whales in a heartbeat. Curious whales approach divers and boats, proving that we interest them as well.
Whales are curious about humans, and some of them like us as well
Whales have feelings for humans they come in contact with regularly. A Marine Biologist was with a camera crew. She had been studying whales in the area for twenty-eight years.
She was in the water when the whale began nudging her with its chin. It was trying to get her tucked under its pectoral fin. The confused woman tried to get away, but the whale wouldn’t allow it.
The whale protected the diver
At some point, the woman could lift her head out of the water. That’s when she saw the fin of the tiger shark. The whale kept the diver by its side until she could get back on the boat unharmed.
I saw a show on TV years ago about orcas. There was a segment about a diver that swam with a pod for many years. One day while diving, the diver ran into trouble with his equipment.
His wife knew something was wrong when the orcas changed their tune
He never made it to the surface. His wife was on the boat listening to the whales with electronic equipment. She knew something was wrong when the whale’s vocalizations changed. The whales sounded distressed.
Whales swim close to divers, allowing the divers to touch them, in places like Baja, Mexico. The locals take tourists out on boats where they can pet and stroke the grey and humpback whales.
They are as interested in us as we are in them
Whales want to have a relationship with humans. They seem to have the ability to care about humans. In light of the way humans hunt them, they can forgive as well.
Final thought:
Whales are interesting and complex animals. They seem to want a relationship with humans. They are also as interested in us as we are in them. We could learn a lot from each other.
