Curator’s Note: Medium.com Mastery, set for release on March 19, 2026, marks six years of ILLUMINATION publication’s journey on Medium, founded by Dr. Mehmet Yildiz. This book provides a neutral perspective on leveraging Medium as a reader, creator, freelancer, and author. It emphasizes understanding the platform’s strengths and weaknesses, offering insights into effective writing without succumbing to trends. Readers will learn about Medium’s unique ecosystem, its role in building relationships and opportunities, and its SEO advantages for long-term visibility. The book also compares Medium to other platforms like Substack, positioning it as a vital part of a broader writing strategy.

Dear Subscribers and the ILLUMINATION community on Medium.com!

Happy Weekend!

Medium attracts millions of readers and publishes thousands of stories each day, yet few people truly understand how it works, who benefits most from it, and how to use it wisely and strategically without losing perspective.

This book grew out of six years of deep, continuous practice on Medium.com as a writer, editor, curator, publication owner, community builder, and former Boost Nominator. During those years, I spent more time on Medium than on any other writing platform, not as an experiment, but as a lived professional environment shaped by real people, real ideas, real conflict, and real growth.

This is not a sponsored book. I didn’t write it to praise Medium, defend it, or market it. It is also not written to dismiss or criticize the platform for the sake of frustration, trend-following, or personal disappointment. This mastery book offers a neutral, experience-based perspective that shows both strengths and limitations, successes and struggles, clarity and confusion, including my own ups and downs as an established writer, editor, and owner of multiple publications on the platform.

Medium.com Mastery is not a quick-start guide or a promise of fast income. It is a clarity book for people who want to understand how Medium actually works and how it fits into a meaningful writing, learning, or content strategy.

You will learn why Medium remains a unique and innovative platform that no other company has successfully replicated. You will see how its blend of editorial curation, human judgment, algorithmic distribution, and social reading creates an ecosystem designed for thinking and learning rather than noise. You will understand why many writers grow quickly and then stall, and how depth, coherence, and trust reopen that path.

The book explores writing mastery without chasing trends, showing how openings, narrative commitment, cadence, and emotional precision shape long-term visibility. It explains how editors think, what curation truly means, and how boosted stories are born through clarity and relevance rather than popularity. As a former Boost Nominator, I share what I looked for and why those principles still matter today.

This book also speaks honestly about money. Medium no longer functions as a reliable income machine, and pretending otherwise misleads serious writers. Instead, Medium shines as a serendipity engine, a place where relationships, opportunities, book deals, invitations, collaborations, and communities quietly emerge over time. When used well, it becomes a powerful layer in a broader professional ecosystem.

You will also learn about Medium’s role for book authors, including its verified author features, and how many authors use the platform to test ideas, build credibility, and reach readers without aggressive promotion. The book explains Medium’s remarkable and enduring SEO strength, showing why well-written stories continue to surface years later through search engines.

Beyond Medium itself, this book compares Medium with Substack, Patreon, and Vocal, clarifying what each platform does best and how they can work together. Medium becomes the discovery and authority layer, while other platforms support deeper relationships and monetization.

Leveraging my other books, the book closes with six years of hard-earned lessons from building ILLUMINATION, one of Medium’s largest and most active publication ecosystems. These chapters reflect on leadership, mistakes, human behavior, community dynamics, and what truly lasts when metrics fade.

This book is for writers who want to grow without losing themselves, professionals who want to share knowledge responsibly, content startups seeking ethical visibility, readers curious about how ideas travel, and lifelong learners who believe writing remains one of the most powerful tools for thinking clearly in public.
Medium.com Mastery is an invitation to see the platform, and your work on it, with depth, realism, and purpose.

I am pleased that the manuscript passed the QA and was accepted by several book publishers and distributors, Draft2Digital yesterday. It is now ready for preorder via this link.

This is indeed much anticipated book Dr Yildiz. Although I enjoy writing on Medium I noticed the distribution got broken and my stories hardly reach to my followers or subscribers. I admire your strategies to help so many writers and delight so many readers. Illumination grew so fast. Thank you for helping me too.
